What are some tips for maintaining fingernails for flemenco and clical guitar playing?

I play almost all styles of guitar and I've been really trying to get my clical and finger-style technique up. Obviously i need nails for this but my nails are naturally very flimsy and weak... i can completely bend my nails backwards, that's how flimsy they are.. and consequently they chip very easily which is the thing im trying to avoid. I currently use super glue and put 2 coats of it and let it dry overnight but i find that after 3 -5 hours into the day without even playing guitar the glue starts to chip off and looks really bad. also if i try playing guitar with these chips, the nails snag on the string and it basically rips the super glue off. I've had people tell me about acrylic coats of polish and such... some just say get fake nails but my girlfriend would never approve of it because they look "gay".. she doesn't even like them long in the first place...
