Ovulation kit and pregnancy...?

should i have only from the day the stick shows iam ovulating...or should i start trying from the 10th day after my periods...iam so confused abt the dates i need to try.when checking up with my doc he tested me and said something about my follicles haven't dropped and that i need to start trying from the 13th day.isn't that too late?
